We are a family business (vulgo “Roithschuster”), which produces leather shoes in the district of Roith, Upper Austria’s Ebensee by Lake Traunsee.

Our company name “Bergschuhfabrikation Steinkogler” reflects our history. For a long time, the focus of our shoe production was on mountain shoes for mountaineers or wood grooms, who supplied wood to heat the brewing pans for the saltworks in Ebensee. The classic mountain shoes changed in the middle of the 20th century towards a sporting good. We took this development into account and in the 1970s we were able to equip many expeditions up to Mount Everest with special shoes made by us.

Our location in the heart of the Salzkammergut and the associated love for traditional costume made our ancestors expand their repertoire towards Haferl- and traditional shoes. We still produce them in the old, traditional way, but we also enjoy combining tradition and modernity in new, unusual and creative models.

Anyone who knows the winter in the Salzkammergut knows how important reliable footwear is at this time of year. Our winter shoes and boots warm every frozen foot and are extremely popular, even far beyond the Salzkammergut.

Whether mountain, traditional, low shoes or winter boots – we are proud of every pair of shoes that leave our company.
